Adopt a Family Food Collection
OSLC is partnering with Virginia Beach’s Department of Social Services by collecting non-perishable food to provide Thanksgiving and Christmas meals for two “adopted” families. See a list of items needed in the Narthex. Food items for these families need to be turned in by Sunday, November 15th for Thanksgiving and by December 20th for Christmas. Seniors Luncheon
Come join the OSLC Seniors Group as they host a luncheon on Thursday, November 12th. Enjoy fellowship and food in Carbaugh Hall. All ages are welcome to attend.
Little Dresses for Africa
Sundays at 12PM in the library.
Next sessions will be scheduled for November 7th and December 6th from 12PM through 4 PM.
Join us for our next sessions in this long-established project at OSLC, where we have been creating dresses for girls in Africa since 2014. This initiative transforms donated pillowcases into beautiful dresses, utilizing the guidelines set forth by “Little Dresses for Africa” and embellishments like ribbons and buttons.
Help us support this global community project and contribute to the over 600 dresses that our volunteers at OSLC have created and donated. No prior sewing experience is necessary to participate.
DIY Craft Day

Come join the Fun on DIY Craft Day from 1 - 5 PM. Bring your own craft project to work on. Maybe you have an idea for a Christmas project you would like to start? Or a work in progress that you need to finish. And it’s always fun to get inspiration from what others are working on. Bring your own lunch. Holiday Hope Collection
November 7th
OSLC is partnering with Manna Ministry of Tidewater to provide holiday meal bags for needy families. Grab a bag in the narthex, fill it from the list provided, and return to church by November 7th. Please also add your name to the signup sheet so we know how many bags to expect back. Each bag will be filled with the essentials for a holiday meal.
You can also help with the worthy project by joining the OSLC Distribution Team. The food bags will be distributed on Saturday, November 21st and Saturday, December 19th. Please sign up on the volunteer sheet. Address any questions to Kathy Manning at 757.377.2688 or kjmanning56@gmail.com
Fast and Fabulous Gift Wrapping Workshop
November 14th
2 - 4 PM
Ladies, take a little break before the holidays with this fun hands-on workshop hosted by Wendy Cochran and Barb McCandless. Learn some ‘fabulous” wrapping techniques that are sure to impress your loved ones. They don’t need to know how ‘fast’ (and easy!) they are. Cost is $10 for supplies and pre-registration by November 11th is required. Register on the sign-up sheet in the narthex or email Barb at barbaramccandless@gmail.com. Bring to workshop: Scissors, 3 gifts (or practice items): 1) an item about the size of a book 2) a small clothing item, such as a tee shirt, scarf, gloves, etc. 3) a bottle of wine or sparkling cider and a friend or two!
You can bring a smile to a needy child’s face this Christmas by participating in the Salvation Army’s Christmas stocking collection. Empty stockings are available for pick-up in the narthex and due back by Sunday, November 29th. Please note the label for boy or girl and age on the cardboard topper.
Gift suggestions:
Puzzles, hair accessories, hats, socks, gloves, jump ropes, small books, coloring books, memo pads, small cars, crayons, pens, pencils, stickers, colored pencils, play dough, small stuffed animals.
No candy or other food items are allowed.
Please securely staple the cardboard topper and do not overstuff the stockings as they are handled multiple times prior to distribution.
